Hilltop Kiwanis 65th Anniversary Party

Hilltop Kiwanis celebrated their 65th anniversary at the American Legion Post 532 on Demorest Road on August 7, 2010.  Guests signed in and were given an opportunity to participate in a small silent auction or to purchase tickets for a player signed Blue Jacket jersey donated by WCMH-4.  The evening was followed by acknowledging long time club members, Don McVay, Gerald Koster, Bob Jones and Joe Norris.  Chuck Roush served as MC and handled the job in his usual entertaining manner.  Special guests Gov. Don and Carol Parker, Pres. Char Collister from the Columbus Club, Pres. Sherman (Dale) Leach of Grove City, and several past presidents of various clubs added to the festivities.  Immediate Past President Rich Riley coordinated the event and added lots of special touches with centerpieces and the acquisition of the auction items.  He reported that sales from the raffle and silent auction netted an additional $305 that would be used to purchase additional supplies for the Stuff the Bus project.  Tony Minnear served as entertainer of the evening and after the guests warmed up there were few songs that didn't show someone dancing on the dance floor to the variety of music.  Sandy Robert compiled a wonderful book from the previous anniversary books and one was placed at each seat to show the history of the club.  A video of photographs taken from the club history books was shown on the front wall.  That work was created by Dick Hoffman from the records painstakingly organized and chronicled by Alan Gates.  The video evoked lots of memories as the pictures showed events that had taken place over the 65 year history.  Thanks to all who put this together and made such a memorable event happen!

Hilltop Kiwanis is located in Columbus, Ohio in an area that we refer to as Hilltop USA.  Hilltop Kiwanis is most recently involved in a project known as Patriotic Pride.  We are proudly teaming up with the American Legion and VFW to show the patriotism of our town by renting flags and flagpoles to our residents.  The flagpoles will have the flag installed and will be ten feet in height.  We will bring them to your home and install them five times a year on the flag holidays and then remove them shortly afterward.

The Patriotic Pride project serves many purposes.  It allows us an outward display of our support for our veterans, our troops serving now, and of our country.  It affords funds to bring back into the community to support all of the projects we do for the children of the Hilltop.  It promotes our club and our willingness to serve Hilltop USA.

The motto of Kiwanis is Serving the Children of the World, One Child and One Community at a Time.  We thank the veteran's organizations that are joining in with us on this project and look forward to a long friendship.

If you're from this area fondly known as Hilltop USA, let us know.  If you were a past recipient of a scholarship awarded by Hilltop Kiwanis, let us know that as well and how it has helped you in your life's journey.

Sincerely,

Vicki Malone
President, Hilltop Kiwanis
